Defense seeks to have murder charges dropped in Malibu crash that claimed lives of 4 Pepperdine students.

A judge is set to consider a defense request to drop murder charges against Fraser Michael Bohm, who is accused of causing a fatal crash in Malibu that resulted in the deaths of four Pepperdine University students. Bohm, 24, faces charges of murder and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence following a crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in 2023. The tragic incident occurred when Bohm allegedly veered onto the shoulder of the highway and collided with parked vehicles, which then struck the students walking on the side of the road. The victims, Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams, all seniors and members of a sorority, received their degrees posthumously. Bohm's new legal team is seeking to dismiss the murder charges, claiming insufficient evidence was presented at a previous hearing. Prosecutors argue that Bohm was driving recklessly, exceeding the speed limit by a significant margin. The defense contends that the prosecution is unjustly framing a tragic accident as murder. The site of the crash, known as "dead man's curve," has a history of accidents, prompting calls for improved safety measures. Parents of the students killed in the crash have criticized the lack of pedestrian safeguards in the area.
