Deadly overnight crash closes southbound 101 through Studio City

A deadly crash left all southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway closed through Studio City early Monday morning. The crash was reported just after 2:30 a.m. when a vehicle crashed into the center just west of the 170 Freeway, where the 101's southbound lanes travel in an eastbound direction through Studio City. Emergency crews arrived to find one patient trapped inside the vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. That patient, identified only as a 60-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled from the vehicle, the department said. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the closure of all southbound lanes in the area just after 2:35 a.m. The closure was expected to remain in place until about 5:30 a.m. Check back for updates on this developing story.
