Deadly helicopter crash on Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro
A tragic event occurred on Wednesday night when a rescue helicopter carrying five individuals crashed on Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. The crash took place on a popular climbing route in Tanzania as the helicopter was en route to evacuate patients from the mountain. Among the deceased were two foreign nationals, identified as Czech citizens, along with a local doctor, a tour guide, and the pilot. The accident occurred at an altitude exceeding 13,100 feet between Barafu Camp and Kibo Summit. The helicopter belonged to Kilimanjaro Aviation, a company offering medical evacuation services. Investigations have been initiated by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority to determine the cause of the crash. While climbing Kilimanjaro is not considered technically challenging, the high altitude presents a risk of altitude sickness for climbers. Despite being a popular destination with around 50,000 annual visitors, aviation incidents on the mountain are rare, with the previous recorded accident happening in November 2008.
