According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene shortly after 3:25 p.m. on eastbound U.S. 50 near Bass Lake Road. They found a black Nissan Titan pickup involved in a solo-vehicle crash. Investigators told FOX40 the truck struck a guardrail before rolling down an embankment. The adult male driver was pronounced dead at the scene after he was ejected from his vehicle. Witnesses told CHP that the driver was speeding and that the rain may have been a factor in the crash. CHP said his identity will be released after the next of kin have been notified. Commuters may experience traffic time as the far-right lane of eastbound U.S. 50 remains closed as CHP continues to investigate. CHP said there is no estimated time for when the lane will be open, and the cause of the crash continues to be investigated.
