Deadly crash of Mexican Navy plane in Texas

A small Mexican Navy aircraft carrying a young medical patient and seven others crashed near Galveston on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least five individuals and initiating a search operation in the waters along the Texas coast. Among the passengers were four Navy officers and four civilians, including a child. Two passengers were associated with a nonprofit organization supplying aid to Mexican children with severe burns, facilitating their transfers to a hospital in Galveston. While U.S. Coast Guard officials confirmed the loss of at least five lives, they did not disclose the identities of the deceased passengers. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Mexico's Marines conveyed their condolences to the families of the victims. The crash occurred close to the base of the Galveston Island causeway, sparking a rapid response from emergency and search teams in the area. A local yacht captain, Sky Decker, assisted in the rescue efforts despite challenging conditions, recovering a critically injured woman trapped in the wreckage and another passenger who did not survive. The Mexican Navy disclosed that the aircraft was involved in a medical mission in collaboration with the Michou and Mau Foundation, known for providing emergency medical transportation for children with severe burns. Various authorities, including the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, are investigating the crash incident. Weather conditions, including prevailing foggy weather, may have played a role in the accident.
