Deadly crash closes northbound 101 Freeway in Woodland Hills
A deadly crash shut down the northbound 101 Freeway in the Woodland Hills area early Wednesday morning. The two-vehicle collision was reported just before 1:30 a.m. near Valley Circle Boulevard on a stretch of the 101 that runs east-west through the San Fernando Valley. The crash prompted officials to close all freeway lanes as emergency crews rushed to the scene. One person was found trapped inside a vehicle, forcing firefighters to peel off the car’s roof to reach the patient. The California Highway Patrol confirmed one motorist was killed. A second person was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition. The identities of those involved were not immediately released. A SigAlert for the lane closures remained in effect as of 4:30 a.m., though officials said the shutdown was expected to clear soon. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
