Deadly crash at LaGuardia Airport impacting flights into, out of CVG
Flights out of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport are being impacted after a deadly crash at New York's LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night. Two scheduled flights out of CVG for LaGuardia have been canceled. All flights in and out of LaGuardia have been grounded. The crash occurred when an Air Canada regional jet struck a firetruck on a runway while landing late Sunday night. The pilot and copilot were killed in the collision, which crushed the nose of the aircraft, while 41 passengers and crew members were taken to area hospitals, some with serious injuries. Most have since been released from treatment, authorities said.Sunday's crash and Monday morning's closure of LaGuardia comes as airport travelers are facing longer-than-normal security lines, both at CVG and across the country, due to TSA staffing amid the partial government shutdown. As of 6:50 a.m., CVG's online security counter shows wait times of four minutes for TSA Pre-Check and 11 minutes for general security. This past weekend, Pres. Trump threatened to send ICE agents to airports across the country. A representative with CVG confirmed to WLWT Sunday that they have not heard anything from the Department of Homeland Security about a possible deployment of ICE agents to the airport.
