Crash involving multiple vehicles closes I-469
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A crash early Wednesday morning involving multiple semis and passenger vehicles closed I-469 for hours northeast of Fort Wayne. Traffic in both directions is now moving. According to a press release from the Allen County Sheriff's Department, it happened around 12:08 a.m. near the Stellhorn Rd. overpass, south of the Maysville Rd./SR 37 interchange. A semi with a trailer was traveling southbound when it left the roadway for an unknown reason, hitting the Stellhorn Rd. overpass. The semi lost its load and pushed a construction pole into the southbound lanes. A tow truck also traveling south hit the pole, causing it to then hit a temporary median wall. The force pushed sections of concrete into the northbound lanes. A semi hauling pigs and several other vehicles in the northbound lanes hit the debris, according to ACSD. Medics took three people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Police estimated I-469 would be closed for several hours between SR 37 and US 24. As of 6 a.m., only the right lane of southbound 469 remained closed. The Stellhorn Road overpass will be closed until INDOT can inspect the bridge for any damage.
