Crash involving IDOT vehicle shuts down lanes on outbound Dan Ryan Expressway early Sunday morning, state police say
CHICAGO — A crash involving an Illinois Department of Transportation vehicle shut down lanes on the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway on the city's South Side early Sunday morning, according to Illinois State Police. ISP says all lanes reopened around 6:30 a.m. According to ISP, the crash happened just before 2 a.m. in the express lanes of I-94 southbound near 37th Street, where an IDOT Emergency Traffic Patrol truck was stopped, with emergency lights activated, while assisting another disabled motorist. The IDOT worker was standing outside their vehicle, ISP says, when a Kia sedan lost control and crashed into the IDOT truck, pushing it forward into the disabled motorist's car. The IDOT worker and the driver of the Kia were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to ISP. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
