Crash into I-85 guardrail spurs 2 miles of Orange County traffic backups

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- A wreck along Interstate 85 in Orange County has closed a lane and created about two miles of traffic backups on Sunday afternoon. The crash was reported around 3:35 p.m. on I-85 north near mile marker 168, which is about two miles east/north of the N.C. 86 exit, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. An NCDOT camera showed a black car that crashed head-on into the center guardrail divider. Several emergency vehicles were headed to the scene or had already arrived. The left lane of I-85 was closed. It's unclear if anyone was injured in the crash. Although one car crashed into the guardrail, the NCDOT camera showed another vehicle possibly involved in the wreck. The NCDOT said the wreck scene should be clear by 5:50 p.m. The same stretch of I-85 experienced two major crashes late last month.
