Coroner: Wells County man dies after single-vehicle rollover crash

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- A man died Thursday after a single-vehicle crash in Huntington County, according to the Huntington County Coroner's Office (HCCO). The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Mayne Road and County Road 500 East, which is south of Roanoke. The driver, identified as 61-year-old Gary R. Zickafoose of Uniondale, Indiana, was heading north on CR 500 East when he "missed or poorly anticipated" a stop sign at the T-intersection. According to the HCCO, he tried to brake at the last minute, which caused his pickup truck to spin and go out of control. The truck crashed into a utility pole and went into steep ditch, causing the truck to roll over one time and come back to rest on its wheels. Authorities pronounced Zickafoose dead at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries, and his death has been ruled an accident. Zickafoose was not wearing a seat belt during the crash but was not ejected from the truck, according to the HCCO. The Huntington County Sheriff's Office and the HCCO are still investigating the crash.
