Coroner rules toddler's drowning in Hanover Township an accident
The Luzerne County Coroner's Office has ruled the death of a 21-month-old girl who was found unresponsive in a swimming pool last week an accident. Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes announced Tuesday that an autopsy determined the toddler died from drowning, and the manner of death was ruled accidental. According to Hanover Township police, officers were dispatched to a home on River Road in the Lincoln Heights section of Hanover Township at approximately 1 p.m. Friday for a report of an unresponsive child. Investigators said the toddler had entered a swimming pool behind the residence. Emergency personnel from Hanover Township Medic 9 and the Hanover Township Fire Department performed life-saving measures before the child was transported to Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, where she was pronounced dead in the emergency department. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
