Coroner report shows 15-year-old passenger in E-town DUI crash died of drowning

A coroner has identified the minor killed after a wreck in Hardin County, and released his cause of death—drowning.Watch our previous coverage in the video player above.According to Kentucky State Police, the crash happened before 9 p.m. Saturday in the area of 860 Bewley Hollow Road in Elizabethtown. Troopers said a car flipped upside down in a flooded creek with three people inside. Police say the driver, 44-year-old David Rhodes, of Elizabethtown, was driving the car when he lost control.Rhodes and two minors became trapped. One of them, 15-year-old Ethan Rhodes, died at the hospital.According to the coroner, his cause of death was drowning, not injuries from the crash impact. Water was high across the region after several rounds of rain.David Rhodes and the other minor were treated and released. During the investigation, officers found David Rhodes had been driving under the influence of alcohol during the crash.He was arrested and charged with DUI and first-degree assault.Police did not specify the relationship between him and the victims.
