Connecticut man dies in Vermont snowmobile crash
STANNARD, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - A Connecticut man is dead after a reported snowmobile crash Sunday. Vermont State Police said the incident occurred on VAST Trail 513, near Norway Road around 3:15 p.m. The operator, Kevin Smith, 62, of Chester, Connecticut, was traveling west when he drifted off the north side trail, hitting a stump. He then reportedly lost control and tipped over. Smith was ejected into several trees, state police said. Authorities report that life-saving measures were attempted. Hardwick Rescue, the Hardwick Fire Department and the Greensboro Fire Department assisted VSP at the scene. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash, state police said.
