Closure of Westbound Highway 24 in Oakland after big rig accident

A collision involving a large truck led to the closure of all lanes heading west on a freeway in the East Bay on Thursday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on westbound Highway 24, just east of Highway 13. A Subaru driver changed lanes unsafely into the path of a Nissan, resulting in a chain reaction collision involving a big rig carrying a trailer loaded with cardboard. The big rig overturned, with the cargo striking a Ford pickup. The freeway was cleared and opened to traffic before 6:15 p.m. The big rig driver sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital, while no other individuals were harmed. Separately, traffic on the westbound Interstate 80 in the Hercules area was disrupted most of the day due to a police incident involving the Richmond Police Department.
