Closure of I-271 due to tanker truck accident
A tanker truck accident on I-271 near Granger Township caused significant traffic delays on Wednesday morning. Emergency personnel, including police, fire crews, and hazmat teams, were called to the scene to address the crash involving a tanker carrying ethanol. The northbound section of I-271 remains closed between I-71 and I-77, and authorities anticipate the road closure for the rest of the day for cleanup efforts. Drivers are advised to take an alternate route using I-71 to SR-3 north and SR-303 east to SR-176 south to return to I-271. Luckily, the semi driver involved in the crash was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but there is no immediate danger to nearby residents. Lt. Johnathon Tibbs expressed gratitude for the public's patience as crews work to manage the spill, ensure safety, and eventually reopen the roadway. The extent of injuries resulting from the accident is currently unknown.
