CHP seeks car involved in fatal pedestrian crash in East Bay

(KRON) -- The California Highway Patrol is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying a white SUV that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Wednesday night in Castro Valley. A pedestrian was killed in the crash with a big rig and the unknown SUV. The collision occurred on eastbound Interstate 580, just west of Center Street, at 9:21 p.m., CHP said. A preliminary investigation determined that the pedestrian ran onto the roadway for unknown reasons before being struck. The identity of the victim has not been determined as of Thursday morning. The big rig driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation. The driver of the white SUV fled the scene after the crash, according to authorities. “We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the white SUV involved in this crash,” CHP wrote on social media. “If you witnessed the incident, saw a white SUV in the area at the time, or have any information that may assist investigators, please contact the CHP Hayward Area office at 510-489-1500.”
