Child killed in Iron County crash after side-by-side rolled, caught fire

A young girl was killed, and another was injured in a crash after their side-by-side rolled over and became engulfed in flames. Two girls, ages 12 and 13, were driving a side-by-side near the Iron County Fairgrounds in Parowan on Friday evening when investigators believe they turned the vehicle too wide, causing the wheels to catch, according to officials with the Iron County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle rolled and caught fire during the crash. First responders arrived, finding the side-by-side completely engulfed in flames. "Due to the extent of the fire, the vehicle was initially believed to be a truck; however, it was later determined to be a side-by-side," officials said. One of the girls was injured but able to escape the vehicle, while the other was trapped inside. The second girl was declared dead at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not released the identity of the victim out of respect for her family. "This incident is a heartbreaking tragedy that has impacted the community and will continue to af fect those involved. At this time, the primary focus remains on supporting the individuals and families affected, completing the necessary notifications, and conducting a thorough investigation," they said. Parowan school officials released a statement saying the elementary and high school communities "have been deeply shaken by a tragic accident." "We are deeply saddened and want to express our most heartfelt condolences to the families involved during this unimaginably difficult time. Please keep them close in your thoughts and prayers," school officials said. They reminded students of their access to free therapy resources, adding that they will have walk-in availability from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Students who would prefer to schedule an appointment can text 81010 with the message @2getherphs. "We want to help all that we can. Please do not hesitate to reach out — no need is too small, and we are here for every one of you," school officials said. While officials have not released the victim's identity, there is a GoFundMe for Dusty Rose Dalley, a 12-year-old killed in a side-by-side crash on Friday in Parowan. The fundraiser describes her as an "All-American girl" who loved baseball, horses, dance and her friends and family. "Dusty Rose's beautiful life may have been far too short, but the love she gave and the memories she created will live on forever," it said. ___
