Child dies after crash in Greensboro, mother charged, police say
GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- A 3-year-old died over the weekend after a crash on Friday, and a mother has been charged, according to a Greensboro Police Department news release. Around 12:22 p.m., Greensboro police and firefighters responded to Interstate-73 North near Mile Marker 98 when they were told about a crash with injuries. Annie Roberts, 31, of Tennessee, was driving her Honda Odyssey north on I-73 with her 3-year-old and 5-year-old in the minivan. The van went off the road to the right and crashed into a sound barrier wall. She was wearing her seatbelt, and both children were in child restraint systems. Roberts and her 5-year-old suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. Her 3-year-old was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Saturday, police say. Driver fatigue is believed to be a factor in the crash. Roberts has been charged with failing to maintain lane control and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
