Child critically injured in Canandaigua Lake pontoon accident

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WROC) — A 7-year-old has been hospitalized after he fell out of a boat and was pulled under the propeller on Canandaigua Lake. The Ontario County Sheriff's Office reports that the accident happened about a mile off the shore. Deputies responded to the Lake House around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities say the 7-year-old was riding on a pontoon boat with his family when a wave propelled the child up and off in front of the boat. He landed between the two pontoons as the boat passed over him. The propeller lacerated his leg, causing a critical injury. The adults, including the child's father, quickly enter the water to recover the child and return him to shore. Once on shore, Canandaigua EMS and civilians helped deputies ensure the child was stable and secured transport for the parents with the child. The child was taken to Strong Hospital in Rochester via Mercy Flight. The child's current condition is not known at this time. Stay with News 8 for updates to this story.
