Child, 6, killed in accident on I-64 East in Henrico
A tragic accident occurred on Interstate 64 East in Henrico County, Virginia, resulting in the death of a 6-year-old boy on Sunday evening. Virginia State Police reported that the incident involving two vehicles happened at 8:18 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, near the Nine Mile Road exit. The crash occurred when a vehicle on I-64 East skidded out of control, likely due to the driver being on their phone. The vehicle impacted the central guardrail after spinning across the road. Another vehicle following behind attempted to avoid the collision but lost control, veering off the road, crashing through a guardrail, and hitting a tree down an embankment. The young boy, who was seated in the rear of the second vehicle without a seatbelt, tragically passed away at the scene after being partially ejected through the rear passenger-side window. The driver of the second vehicle was unharmed, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Stay updated with 8News for more information on this developing story.
