Chicago police car damaged by stolen car in Wrigleyville, 2 officers hurt

Early Monday morning in Wrigleyville, a stolen car crashed into a Chicago police squad car, causing significant damage. The incident occurred when a Hyundai Elantra, reported as stolen, disregarded a stop sign and collided with the marked police vehicle at the intersection of Racine Avenue and Waveland Avenue. The impact forced the squad car onto the sidewalk and parkway, hitting a tree, while the Elantra struck three parked cars. Two officers sustained severe injuries and were transported to a local hospital, while the 18-year-old Elantra driver was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition and placed under police custody. The police Major Accident Investigation Unit began their examination of the incident on Monday.
