Chateaugay woman dies in Route 11 accident
A tragic incident occurred early in the morning on Route 11 in Chateaugay, resulting in the loss of a local woman's life and leading to a Malone man being charged with vehicular homicide. According to the New York State Police, the accident occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday when Ryan E. Bordeau, 24, was driving west on the highway with Jennifer S. Hathorn, 49, as his passenger. Bordeau lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road onto the north shoulder. Despite the efforts of the Chateaugay Fire Department and Foothills EMS to save her, Hathorn tragically passed away at the scene of the collision. Bordeau displayed signs of impairment during questioning by troopers and failed field sobriety tests. A subsequent breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .10 percent. Following a blood test at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Bordeau was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court but was released on his own recognizance. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit of the New York State Police are currently conducting further investigations into the crash.
