Charlestown police investigate after driver allegedly rams vehicle into officer's cruiser
The Charlestown Police Department is investigating after a driver allegedly rammed a vehicle into a police officer’s cruiser. The department says the crash involving a police officer happened on Old Post Road and Falcone Lane. Around midnight, crews responded to a 911 call about an erratic wrong-way driver on Route 1 entering town from South Kingstown. ALSO READ: Rhode Islanders react to apparent end of Iran War When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly rammed into the police cruiser. The department says one officer discharged a firearm during the incident. The vehicle was stopped. Rhode Island State Police took into custody a 23-year-old man from Johnston for suspected DUI-first offense and other offenses. State police later identified the suspect as Jonathan Vasquez of 1036 Atwood Avenue. He will be arraigned at Fourth Division District Court.
