Charges pending after Claiborne County crash: 8-year-old dead, three injured

An 8-year-old child from Tennessee tragically passed away following a crash in Claiborne County caused by black ice, as per the initial report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. In addition to the child’s fatality, three individuals sustained injuries, and charges are being considered for two individuals, as stated by THP. The incident occurred when an SUV was traveling north on State Route 63 in Claiborne County around 7:45 a.m. on Thursday. The vehicle hit a patch of black ice, leading the driver to lose control, resulting in the SUV sliding off the road, colliding with a mailbox. After hitting a rock embankment, the SUV spun around and came to a stop, leading to the child’s tragic death and the injury of a 6-year-old. Both adults in the vehicle sustained injuries. While the children were secured in booster seats, the adults were not wearing seatbelts, according to THP. Charges are currently pending against the adults, as indicated in the preliminary report.
