Charges filed in connection with Christmas Eve accident in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) -- Multiple charges were filed in connection to an accident that took place in Fayette County on Christmas Eve in 2025. According to information from Jess McMullen, the Fayette County Sheriff, 46-year-old Wesley V. Queen, of Fayetteville, was charged with Driving Under the Influence (First Offense), Reckless Driving, Destruction of Property, Failure to Maintain Control, and Improper Registration. The information from the Fayette County Sheriff stated that members of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office responded to a car accident at around 10:35 p.m. on Gatewood Road in the Fayetteville area of Fayette County following reports of a truck causing structural damage and a fire after hitting a house. According to Sheriff McMullen, once members of law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found a wrecked truck, with the driver, identified as Queen, being treated by EMS personnel, and fire department personnel working to put out the fire. Sheriff McMullen stated that it was found that the truck allegedly left the roadway near Gatewood Road, went up an embankment, hit and uprooted a utility pole, and broke a large tree limb before hitting the side of the house. Pieces of the truck and other debris "were found scattered along the path of travel." According to the information from Sheriff McMullen, members of law enforcement responded earlier the same evening to a report about a vehicle that matched the description of the truck involved in the accident, and the truck was allegedly driving erratically in the Glen Jean area of Fayette County, however they could not find the truck. The information from Sheriff McMullen stated that medical records were gathered as part of the investigation, and they revealed that Queen reportedly told hospital personal that he had alcohol and prescription medication before driving. A search warrant was carried out for the data recorder, or "black box," of the truck, however it was destroyed by the accident and the fire. According to Sheriff McMullen, charges were not filed instantly due to investigators needing to gather witness statements and medical records, as well as carry out multiple search warrants to find out the circumstances regarding the accident. The information from Sheriff McMullen stated that Queen was charged once the investigation was complete. According to a release from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Wesley V.
