Charges filed against Oakland County road worker for fatal hit-and-run in Farmington Hills

An Oakland County Road Commission employee has been charged following a hit-and-run incident in Farmington Hills that resulted in one person's death. Bryan Derryberry, 51, was arraigned on Monday for a felony charge of failing to stop at the scene of a serious accident. Derryberry was released on a $100,000 personal bond by the Farmington Hills Police Department. The incident occurred on Jan. 1 when police responded to a report of a man unconscious on the roadway. The victim, identified as 68-year-old Edward Detroit, later died in the hospital. It was discovered that a road commission plow truck, driven by Derryberry, was involved in the crash. Chief John Piggott commended the investigators for their swift action and expressed hope for closure for the victim's family. Derryberry is scheduled for a court appearance on Jan. 16. The road commission has been contacted for comment by CBS News Detroit.
