Chaotic I-75 Crash: Driver Blames Whiteout for Collision
A driver involved in the significant series of crashes on I-75 shared with FOX 2 about the chaotic incident that led to the closure of the freeway on Monday. By 4 p.m., the northbound side of I-75 was able to reopen after extensive efforts to clear the area. Cooper was among the many drivers caught in a sudden snow squall on northbound I-75 near McNichols, where the chain of accidents occurred. He described the unexpected nature of the squall, with visibility reduced to almost nothing, causing cars to slow down until collisions started happening. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the more than 20 vehicles involved in the crashes. Cooper's car was severely damaged after sliding underneath a semi-truck, although he managed to escape unharmed. His recount of the accident paints a scene of panic and quick thinking amidst the traffic turmoil. The exact count of vehicles involved is still unclear, with traffic passing on the right side exit lane. MDOT reported closures and provided alternate routes for affected commuters. Severe winter weather conditions were attributed to the challenging road conditions that day, causing havoc on multiple roadways.
