Chain reaction crash with FDNY truck leaves 1 dead and multiple injured: police

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – One person has died, and several others are injured after an FDNY firetruck was involved in a chain reaction crash with multiple vehicles on Tuesday night, police said. Police received a 911 call at around 6:46 p.m. for a crash involving an FDNY fire truck, police said. The crash occured near 11th Street and Avenue S. A fire truck was traveling Eastbound on Avenue S with its emergency sirens blaring when it crashed into a commercial van on 11th Street, police said. After striking the commercial van, the fire truck struck an Access-a-Ride van, which then hit a Lexus SUV, authorities said. Multiple firefighters, the driver of the Access-a-Ride van, and the driver of the Lexus were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries; they are suspected to survive. At least one passenger, a 78-year-old man who was riding in the Access-a-Ride van, was killed, according to police. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
