Catskill man dies in two-car crash in Saugerties

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Saugerties Police Department is investigating a deadly two-car crash that happened Thursday afternoon. According to the department, the crash happened at the intersection of State Route 32 and Old Route 32 in Saugerties around 1 p.m. Police said a 2022 Volkswagen, driven by Robert Goldberg, of Catskill, was traveling southbound when it struck a 1988 Freightliner dump truck, that was making a turn onto Old Route 32. Goldberg was treated at the scene by members of the Centerville Fire Department and the Diaz Ambulance before being transported to the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston. While in the hospital, he died from his injuries. Police said the second driver, a 57-year-old man from Palenville, was not reported to have any injuries. According to the department, Route 32 was closed for nearly four hours Thursday after the crash. It has since reopened. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the police department, New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney's Office Collision Reconstruction Team. According to the police department, no charges are expected as of Friday morning.
