Car crashes into tree, killing woman in Phelps County

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — A woman is dead, and a driver was seriously injured after a car struck a tree in Phelps County on Sunday, June 28. The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District says that at approximately 2:39 p.m., its units responded to a vehicle crash in the 21000 block of Highway J, where an occupant was reported to be unconscious and unresponsive. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), a 2005 Toyota Camry travelled off the right side of Highway J and overcorrected. The Toyota then travelled off the left side of the road, the vehicle overcorrected again and travelled off the right side of the road, crashing into a fence and tree. An occupant in the Toyota, a 29-year-old woman from Rolla, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Phelps County Coroner. The driver was seriously injured and taken by an ambulance to Phelps County Hospital for treatment. This is the 13th motor vehicle fatality in MSHP Troop I in 2026.
