Car crashes into home in Saint George, injuring several; one teen critically hurt

A car carrying several young people crashed into a house early Saturday in Saint George, leaving multiple people injured, including one teenager with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened around 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Spruce Head Road (Route 73) and Village Road. When first responders arrived, they found a single vehicle that had gone off the road and slammed into a home, with several occupants hurt.Investigators say the car, a black 2013 Hyundai Sonata, was heading south when the driver failed to make a sharp turn, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into the house. The driver, Eliza Luce, 20, of Union, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. A 16-year-old passenger was critically hurt and flown by helicopter to a trauma center.Five other passengers, Aiden Stalcup, 18, of South Thomaston; Brooklyn Hart, 18, of Belgrade; and three juveniles ages 17, 16 and 15, were also hurt, though their injuries were not considered life-threatening. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. Another passenger, Michael Sabins, 19, of Liberty, had minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.Authorities say speed, as well as possible alcohol or drug use, may have played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
