BVPD asking for witnesses after car crashes into building on Commonwealth Avenue

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — The Bristol, Virginia Police Department (BVPD) said in a release on Friday that it is looking for witnesses who saw a vehicle crash into a building on Commonwealth Avenue earlier in the day at approximately 2:06 p.m. The BVPD said a preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling southbound on 381 when it veered across the roadway, crossed the center median and entered the northbound lanes near the intersection at Commonwealth Avenue. The vehicle then continued through a parking lot before striking a building at 1171 Commonwealth Avenue. The vehicle then reportedly caught fire. The BVPD said several people assisted in removing the driver and a child passenger before first responders arrived. The adult male driver was reportedly taken by Virginia State Police Med-Flight to a hospital for treatment. The child passenger was evaluated on the scene and later released to their family. The investigation remains ongoing. The BVPD is asking anyone who witnessed the crash and has information related to the incident to contact the department at 276-645-7400.
