Bus filled with high schoolers crashes in Warren County

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A tour bus carrying numerous Bronx high schoolers crashed in the town of Lake George on Sunday, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office. The incident reportedly occurred in the area of Lake Shore Drive and Diamond Point Road. Deputies were dispatched to the scene just before 11:15 a.m. Authorities said the bus was driving eastbound on Diamond Point Road when it failed to stop at the intersection with Lake Shore Drive, continuing off-road and hitting several trees, an outbuilding, a boat and a vehicle before coming to a final rest. According to the American Red Cross, 17 students and six adults -- who were from a number of different high schools in the Bronx -- were onboard the bus at the time of the crash. Three people were sent to Glens Falls Hospital with minor injuries while the bus driver was taken to Albany Medical Center with more serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Other victims were reportedly transported to the sheriff's office by a school bus provided by the Lake George Central School District. Superintendent John Luthringer told NEWS10 that the district was otherwise not involved in the incident. "This morning, the Warren County Sheriff's office contacted the school district for support due to an accident that occurred in Diamond Point," Luthringer said. "This was not an accident involving a Lake George bus and does not involve Lake George students." Stay with NEWS10 as we work to find out more details.
