Brenham citizens herd surviving cattle from 18-wheeler accident

BRENHAM, Texas (FOX 44) - Good Samaritans within the Bremond community assisted in herding a group of cattle together after part of the herd was unfortunately killed in an 18-wheeler accident. According to the Bremond Volunteer Fire Department, an 18-wheeler suddenly slammed on its brakes to avoid striking the herd near FM-1373 and South Austin Street around 5:45 a.m. Friday. Several animals were hit and killed. The Brenham community quickly rallied and used their vehicles to help herd the remaining cattle through town. Some of the animals made their way to a nearby backyard, a residential garden, and on some railroad tracks. Bremond VFD says this was a chaotic scene, but amid the sadness of the losses and the accident, there was a heartwarming sight of local cowboys and cowgirls coming together to safely guide the rest of the herd home on a cattle drive through the heart of town.
