Branson resident gets prison time for deadly DUI collision

A man from Branson has been given a sentence following a tragic drunk driving accident that occurred on August 10, 2024. Wilian Garcia-Rodriguez, born in 1993, has admitted guilt to charges of DWI causing death and leaving the scene of a deadly accident. Although he was initially charged with resisting arrest, that charge was dropped. Garcia-Rodriguez has received a 10-year sentence for the DWI charge and a seven-year sentence for leaving the scene, but both will be served at the same time. The incident, detailed in a previous Ozarks First report, took place near Francis Street and Gretna Road. A truck traveling south hit a curb and lost control, crossing into oncoming traffic and eventually overturning. Tragically, a passenger in the truck was fatally injured. Witnesses observed Garcia-Rodriguez flee the scene on foot, but he was apprehended by Branson police shortly after. A breathalyzer test confirmed his high blood alcohol content of 0.272%. Garcia-Rodriguez confessed to driving the truck, admitting to consuming a significant amount of alcohol before the accident. He stated that he ran away because he feared deportation.
