Body found after car crashes into Plain City retention pond

PLAIN CITY, Ohio (WCMH) -- A body was found nearly two weeks after a car crashed into a retention pond in Plain City, according to police. Officers located the body in the water at about 2 p.m. Wednesday along Lafayette Plain City Road. The person has been identified as Charlie Thach, 26, of Plain City. The single-vehicle crash happened at about 4 a.m. on April 24. Rescue crews pulled the submerged vehicle from the pond after the crash and it was unoccupied, police said. Several other searches were conducted after the crash and nothing was initially located. Police said water conditions and limited visibility made the search difficult. "We are grateful for all of our public safety partners who refused to give up in their search for located the drive of the vehicle and any other potential victims," police said in a statement. "We collectively extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Charlie Thach." A final search of the pond found that there were no other victims, according to police. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
