The Glendale Heights Police Department shared footage captured by body cameras of a heroic rescue after a car plunged into a pond over the weekend. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday near Burdette Avenue and Roberta Avenue. Upon receiving the call, officers swiftly arrived at the scene where they discovered three individuals struggling in the water, approximately 20 to 30 feet away from the shoreline, with the vehicle submerged about 12 feet deep. Despite the extreme weather conditions, officers worked valiantly to keep the individuals afloat. Officer Marco Lomibao recalled the intense moment, describing it as a matter of life or death. Officer Dennis Stachura shared his experience of battling freezing temperatures and losing sensation in his body while attempting the rescue. Additional officers and Glenside Fire Protection District crews joined in the effort, successfully retrieving all three individuals with minor injuries. Glendale Heights Police Chief George Pappas commended the officers for their selfless actions, emphasizing their unwavering dedication to the safety of the community. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently charged with Driving Under the Influence, and no further details were provided.
