Bloomfield family mourned after tragic end to trip on N.J. Turnpike
A tragic accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in East Windsor Township has left the Essex County community grieving. Elin and Quacy Waithe, along with one of their teenage daughters, lost their lives in the crash while returning home from a family gathering in Maryland. The collision occurred when a Peterbilt tractor-trailer veered off the road and struck the family's parked GMC SUV on the shoulder of the turnpike. Elin, 44, was standing outside the vehicle, Quacy, 47, was in the front seat, and their daughters were in the back. The family's friends and relatives are devastated by the loss and remember Elin as a dedicated nutritionist at the East Orange Women, Infants and Children's Nutritional Program. She worked to combat food insecurity for 15 years and recently became a registered dietitian. The truck driver involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
