Big rig driver arrested weeks after deadly I-80 hit-and-run crash in Placer County, CHP says
Weeks after a big rig driver fled after a freeway crash that left another driver dead, the California Highway Patrol Auburn division announced it made an arrest in connection.Previous coverage in the video player aboveOfficers arrested 60-year-old Robert Bell of Stockton, who now faces felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter charges, CHP said.The crash happened around 11:12 p.m. on May 26 along I-80 east of Clipper Gap, CHP said. A big rig hauling a tank-trailer with water lost control while traveling westbound and hit the center divider.CHP said the impact caused its trailer to separate and get into the eastbound lanes, where a pickup truck driver going eastbound crashed into the trailer and died. After the crash, the man CHP identified as Bell ran away.On June 18, officers located Bell in Martinez and took him into custody, CHP said. The arrest was in coordination with members of the Placer County Regional Auto Theft Task Force.“This arrest represents the tireless dedication of our investigators and allied law enforcement partners to seek justice for the victim and their family,” CHP Auburn Captain Andy Beasley said in a news release.See news happening?
