Beverly Crest burglary suspects crash during lengthy pursuit that ended in Long Beach
Suspects in a Beverly Crest burglary led officers from two law enforcement agencies on a pursuit through Los Angeles County overnight, crashing into a motorist in South L.A. and continuing on to Long Beach before ditching their car. According to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Orris, a call regarding a hot prowl burglary – meaning someone was present in the home at the time – came in around 3 a.m. Monday. The reporting party stated to dispatch that they were able to see people inside the home via a video surveillance camera, Officer Orris explained. By the time units arrived at the home, located in the 1600 block of North Beverly Drive in Beverly Crest, the suspects had fled, and it was not known right away whether anything was taken. Shortly after the burglary was reported, LAPD units began pursuing a vehicle “described as a black BMW with three to four burglary suspects related to the North Beverly Drive location,” Officer Orris confirmed to KTLA. The suspects eventually navigated onto the southbound 405 Freeway, where the California Highway Patrol took over. KTLA spoke with a CHP spokesperson who was able to verify LAPD requested backup for a pursuit involving possible burglary suspects at 3:12 a.m. Monday. Units chased the suspects all the way to the 105 Freeway, where they exited and got into a crash near the intersection of Central Avenue and Imperial Highway, CHP Officer Garcia stated. A female was taken into custody at that point; however, other suspects were picked up by another vehicle initially described as a blue Chevy, Officer Garcia added. A KTLA crew captured footage of a damaged Toyota sedan said to have been involved in the crash. After the collision, it is believed that those suspects drove to Long Beach, where they ditched their vehicle and ran into an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Via Wanda. Video captured by KTLA shows officers searching through a black BMW sedan parked along the road. Shortly after 7:15 a.m., the LAPD confirmed to KTLA that two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the incident and, as of that time, one remained outstanding. It was still not known whether anything was taken from the Beverly Crest home. No further information was available from either LAPD or CHP right away. Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
