Bartlesville school bus crashes into car on I-44

LUTHER, Okla. (KFOR) — It was a scary Saturday evening for Bartlesville students after their school bus hit another car on the Turner Turnpike near Luther Road. The school bus was carrying 14 students and one staff member. "There was some debris in the road, a white Ford SUV slowed down for the debris, and of course, the bus was going every bit of 75 and not enough time to react. Just from what we can tell, it just slammed into the back of the SUV, and then they both hit the concrete barricade," said Trooper Ruben Maravilla, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Bartlesville Schools tells News 4 that the students were coming back from a Technology Student Association (TSA) competition in Oklahoma City. Both the school and the organization say, "Our thoughts are with the TSA advisor, the students, and their families during this difficult time." The driver of the car and the driver of the bus were taken to the hospital. State troopers say the bus driver's leg had a serious cut and needed a tourniquet applied. The injuries of the other driver are unknown. Two students were taken to the hospital. However, all students are expected to be okay. "Thank God everyone's okay," said Trooper Marvilla. "A lot of I think all these agencies, Luther, Welston, Oklahoma City P.D., Luther Fire, Oklahoma City Fire, just everyone in their efforts to get these kids off the side of the road."
