Authorities responding to a vehicle crashing into Mount Pleasant home
The Mount Pleasant police department is responding to a truck that crashed into a house near Melvin Bennett Road in Mount Pleasant. According to police on scene, the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a curb, and went through the fence of the property. The car then flew over the pool in the yard, hitting the exterior of the house, causing significant damage to the property. The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m, police said, as authorities believe the truck, traveling on Watermark Drive, either experienced brake failure or a stuck accelerator, causing it to veer off course. The truck sustained significant front-end damage, according to officials. No other vehicles or pedestrians were struck as the truck traveled through the area. A specialized tow truck is expected to remove the vehicle from the property, a process that will require maneuvering it over a backyard pool, MPPD says. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities said, including whether the driver may have been impaired. No charges have been filed at this time, though officials indicated a citation was issued and details were being confirmed. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be shared as it becomes available.
