Authorities investigate fatal three-vehicle crash in East County

LA PRESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) —  A fatal three-vehicle crash in La Presa Friday night left one person dead and sent several others to the hospital, authorities confirmed. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, the collision happened around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Jamacha Boulevard and San Diego Street. Officials say deputies were returning to their station after handling another incident when they were nearly struck by an SUV driving recklessly in the area. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle shortly afterward. A short time later, the deputies came upon the three-vehicle collision, involving what's believed to be the same SUV they had encountered moments before. Deputies immediately began providing first aid to the crash victims. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. All other individuals involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released. The crash prompted road closures in the area as deputies worked alongside California Highway Patrol to manage traffic and investigate the scene. All roads have since reopened. No further details on the circumstances leading up to the crash were immediately released. The investigation, taken over by CHP, remains ongoing.
