Authorities identify teenager killed in crash between train and semi-truck
Authorities confirmed the identity of two people involved in a deadly train vs. semi-truck crash in Iowa.The crash was reported on Highway 21 where it intersects with Iowa Interstate Railroad tracks between Brooklyn and Victor in Poweshiek County. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, Highway 21 between Interstate 80 and Highway 6 is closed in both directions due to the derailment.An Iowa State Patrol crash report confirmed Robert Orton, 14, the passenger in the semi-truck, died from his injuries after the crash. His father, 38-year-old Michael Orton, of Palmyra, Missouri, was the driver. Mike McCormick said the semi was carrying a "large John Deere tractor," which may have played a role in knocking the train off the tracks. You can see a photo of the aftermath below.The train is an Iowa Interstate Railroad train. Authorities say there are no swing arms on the railroad crossing, but there are warning lights. They are looking into whether or not they were operational at the time of Wednesday's crash. Maschmann said the road will be closed for at least a couple of days to get things cleaned up and repair the road and tracks."The railroad tracks are really messed up," Maschmann said. "It's going to take some time to get this fixed. Even once they get all this stuff out of the way, getting the railroad tracks back in service is going to be tough."Iowa Interstate had not returned a request for comment.WATCH: Iowa State Patrol Sgt.
