Austin Police work 2 separate fatal crashes involving motorcyclist, pedestrian

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police officers were working two separate fatal crashes early Friday morning. According to APD, the first crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. in the 2600 block of W. Slaughter Lane. APD said a motorcyclist veered off the road for unknown reasons, and officers were working to determine whether a second vehicle was involved. The motorcyclist died at the scene, according to police, and the westbound roadway between Brier Ridge and Piping Rock Trail would be closed for a few hours while investigators worked. APD said the second crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. near the 13000 block of Highway 183 proper heading South. According to police, a pickup truck struck a pedestrian crossing on the highway. The pedestrian died at the scene, and the driver remained at the scene until first responders arrived. APD said the driver was being tested for impairment, and an arrest was possible. The highway was shut down at McNeil Drive, which APD said would last approximately two to three hours. APD’s vehicle homicide unit was investigating both crashes.
