At least 12 people, including 7 children, injured in L.A. freeway crash
A dozen people, including seven children, were injured in a crash on the 5 Freeway overnight, according to preliminary information later confirmed by authorities. The California Highway Patrol’s incident log indicates that units were first called to the northbound span of the 5 just south of Sheldon Street in Sun Valley just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Reports from the scene that were later verified by the Los Angeles Fire Department indicated 12 people were transported to hospitals, including one in serious condition; the rest were said to have suffered minor injuries and were listed in fair condition. LAFD confirmed that the 12 victims included five adults and seven minors. Video from the scene shows a chaotic scene with an SUV overturned on its roof and several ambulances that responded along with law enforcement and the fire department. A stroller and children's toys were seen amongst the debris as several people received treatment on the highway shoulder; one of them appeared to be holding a baby. What caused the crash was not known right away. Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
