At least 1 person dies after small plane crash at airport, Sutter County sheriff's office says
A pilot died Thursday morning after a small plane crash at the Sutter County Airport, officials said.The Federal Aviation Administration said a Vans RV-4 went through a fence around 7:10 a.m. Only the pilot was on board.Following the crash, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office said the airport will be closed until further notice.Several law enforcement officials are at the scene, investigating the plane, which is in a field at the airport. Both of the plane's wings, as well as its propeller, appear to be damaged. Yards away, more plane parts can be seen, as well as a bent chain link fence.KCRA 3's Mike TeSelle observed crews removing a body from the cockpit of the plane. He also reviewed surveillance video from a nearby business that allowed him to watch.He said the video showed the plane landing askew from the runway, rolling parallel to the runway and then through the fence and a cable that threaded through the fence.The sheriff's office said next of kin for the pilot has been notified, and the pilot's identity will be released later.Details were not released on what led to the crash and whether the plane was attempting to land or depart.The sheriff's office is asking motorists to avoid the area of 2nd Street in Yuba City while deputies investigate.See news happening?
