Alcoa Highway closed, power lines down after crash

ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — Alcoa Highway is closed in both directions near Airbase Road after a crash that knocked over power lines Wednesday morning, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said. Two people were transported for injuries, one with severe injuries, spokeswoman for the Alcoa Police Department said. Alcoa Electric is working to remove the electric lines that are blocking the roadway. There is no timeframe for the closure, the spokeswoman said. Traffic has been diverted to Pellissippi Parkway. The three-vehicle crash was reported at 7 a.m., according to TDOT's SmartWay map. The City of Alcoa is showing around 2,450 customers affected by the outage as of 9:00 a.m., primarily in the area near the crash
