Albany woman pleads guilty in fatal I-787 crash
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany woman has pleaded guilty to allegedly driving drunk in a crash that killed her two friends. The Albany County District Attorney's Office said Imahjai Sutherland, 25, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide. The crash happened on October 12, 2025, around 4 a.m. Sutherland was reportedly driving on I-90 eastbound on the southbound ramp toward I-787 when the car left the roadway and went 197 feet down an embankment on 787 south. New York State Police found the car while responding to another crash that morning. The two passengers, identified as Jamilla Tirado, 27, and Cepelynn Johnson, 25, both of Albany, were declared dead on scene. According to the DA's Office, Sutherland was traveling 81 mph when she missed the turn, her BAC was .18 and she has cannabis in her system. Sutherland is set to get six and two thirds to 20 years in state prison, said the DA's Office. She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 27.
